Timing belt change 200tdi

My 94 disco 200tdi has done 68000 miles from new. The timing belt was changed at just over 67000 miles. This was done by a landrover dealer in 2002. The recomended change is at 68000 or every 5 years which ever comes first. As it has only done approx 1000 miles in the last 5 years, do i take the risk thinking it will be ok or shall i change it?? your thoughts would be appreciated.

50/50, it depends on how the car has been stored.....in a nice warm garage I would not be too worried, but if she has been outside and stood then I would at bare min check her.......the belt could have degraded from simply standing and be weaker regardless of milage....best thing to do is check it, it is not a big job.

I've heard of people that have never changed a cambelt and never broke one yet others that it has broke before change time.

£100 snakes for the bit's including waterpump x10 if it breaks I know what I prefer.

Not sure how the vehicle has been stored. I do like a bit of a gamble now and then but this could be one gamble to many. Ill check it but could i still be sure it wont break. i think ill just change it for piece of mind. Like you say for £100 it's done but it could be a four figure sum if you dont.

The time that it's going to take you to strip it all down and check it you might as well change it.I would also change all the tensioners,waterpump etc.

I have goto change my timing belt but on a 300tdi - is it a job that a complete novice like me can easily do? Thanks

I would'nt recomend it if you have never done one before Not very difficult,bit faffy with Land rovers as you have to take lot's of bits off to get to it.when you change the belt you have no margin for error,you either buy one of the special locking kits or mark up all your pulleys with a centre punch,you have to tension it correctly too, one tooth out and it's gunna run like a sack of spanners if at all
