Ticking before starting up?!?!?

Hi when starting the car on the 300 Tdi Auto Commercial

When it gets to position 2 (I think) it starts to tick/click. It seems to go when the car is started, but if you put the key in and turn it to 2 without starting the engine it happens.

It sounds to be coming from the fuel pump maybe.

I am not 100% if it is fly by wire or standard.

Anyone had the same? Or anyone know what to try? Fingers crossed it can be fixed with a penny in the right place!

Glow plug timer relay?

I also have a 300 TDI auto and it does the same thing, Always has since i've had it about 25K miles ago. Sounds like a relay click on and off all the time, and it's coming from the injection pump.

Mine is the fly by wire so i think it's something to do with that.

I don't let it worry me, I just don't keep the key in position 2 for long without starting the car.

Mine's the same... never quite figured out what it is !

iirc, it's something in the pump trying to do what it normally does when it's running - something to do with adjusting the fuel rate etc - it's normal, I think, my old man had a rover that did it.
