I'd not pull it apart to clean it if it's working as there is an element of risk to it's integrity if you have never pulled one apart before. It ain't broke so don't fix is a good one to follow.This is why I said use cab cleaner. The gunge in the valve is only what the engine spits out the breather to be burnt anyway. As for what it does? It's basically a motor driven valve that allows an amount of air to bypass the throttle butterfly. This means the throttle butterfly can remain closed on things like over run which helps engine braking and emissions. The ECU is able to control idle speed vary accurately and quickly using a combination of iacv position and ignition advance.

so where would be the best place to squirt the carb cleaner if its best not taking apart?
