Hi all.
I own a O4 Freelander 1.8 petrol.
I have owned this for about 7 years and I love it to bits.
Over the past 6 months or so the warm idle speed has been getting lower and lower it is now at around 500 to 600 RPM. When sitting at traffic light ect.
Net result is it starts missing and the Engine Management light on the dash starts flashing.
As soon as I get moving again and the revs pick up all is good again.
I have changed the Coils and the Plugs and have a new set of HT leads on the way.

Is there any way I can increase the idle speed.

Thanks in advance of your help.

There's no way to increase the idle speed, unless you have LR specific diagnostic equipment.
However as the idle speed is controlled very accurately my the ECM, there's likely something wrong with the item responsible for maintaining the idle speed.
The first thing to check is the idle air control valve IACV for short.
These have a habit of clogging with muck, and stop working, meaning the idle speed is no longer controlled by the ECM.
You should be able to remove and clean the IACV, which often solves the issue.

I have removed the said article and you are absolutely correct.
It is covered in smutty deposits.
I will now leave it to soak overnight in cleaner and refit in the morning.
