When I change gears on my Freelander Xedi there is a thump noise that feels as if someone has belted the back of the car with a mallet - unless I really ride the clutch. Any ideas what it could be?

I am down in Greece and Freelanders aren't that common here so it would be great to have a few ideas of what it is likely to be before I head down to the local garage!

no not to bad of a job just drop subframe down and you can sneak it in about half hour job if all goes well. There is three bushes but the one what is most common is the middle one shaped abit like a love heart if thats any help

I concurr. Most likely problem is:

1) Centre/front rear diff mount
2) VCU mounts
3) Rear subframe

Great, thanks for all the help!!! It really gives me something to work with when trying to get the problem repaired at my local garage. Although I might just wait until the summer when I can get it done in the UK.

The good thing about having the Freelander is that the island I am on, Lesvos, has loads of dirt roads and it eats them up but the bad thing is that there aren't any land rover specialists - I went to one garage and the guy asked if it was a Renault!

OBTW good luck driving in Greese, (insane) Been there done that never again!
You have to not care about anything or anyone in Athens.

It is a bit mad but i think you get used to it. My worst experience was towing a 5.5m boat through Athens in the Monday morning rush hour a few months ago - even my faithful GPS gave up the ghost and kept saying 'recalculating' until I switched the bl**dy thing off and went back to signposts!
