Threading a cable through clock hole to engine compartment

I was wondering if it is possible to get a new outside temp cable sensor through the clock to the engine bay without drilling any new holes.or if anyone has put a cable from inside to the engine bay some in some other locations any ideas would be appreciated.freelander 54 plate td4

Watch this vid and you'll see a location where yer can push a small wire next to another through the bulkhead behind the coolant reservoir. It's the white wire in the vid.

If yer lie on yer back and look up above the foot pedals you'll see the wire pop through. When it does pull it. Then route it to where yer want, making sure yer keep it out the way and don't get it trapped.

It's easier if yer stay the right way up and look at an angled mirror to see the cable poke through at the top behind the dash... but where's the fun it that.

It is actually possible to add the necessary expernal sensor and activate the dash exterior temp display using T4. This was standard on some markets, but not the UK. The sensor from a Rover 75 will work and you need to add 1 wire to the dash harness. Then get the external temp sensor activated using T4. It's a much better solution imo.

You can buy the sensor new for a few quid. The part used to add the temp display is a 75 part, but it doesn't actually need to come off a 75.

According to that site the sensor is fitted to other cars as well

The temperature display on the Ipack still needs activating with T4, so that could cost a few more £ too. Unless the OP is up in the Midlands and goes to one of the R40 club meets?

I managed to run a cable from roughly that location along the left hand side of the dash and into the door for a temperature sensor mounted under the passengers wing mirror.

Right into the fray I go I will tell you how I get on

Got the temp gauge in I went through the bulkhead as advised behind the expansion tank where the bonnet catch cable runs through, the other end I went through the clock case and the cable came out behind the heater, I had to cut the cable in half as the hole in the bulkhead is only 10mm and the senser a 15mm triangle,just a case of joining the two ends together

When I installed my driving lights I ran the wire through a grommet behind the fuse box. It is probably the same (but opposite) as the grommet behind the expansion tank. I pushed a fish tape through and used it to pull the wire. It was easier than expected and was done without damaging the grommet. The new wire runs through the grommet alongside the existing harness.
