I have a 2000 DSE, with the usual hot starting issues as expereinced by most.

Currently using the hot start whilst saving/ arranging to have the FIP sorted.

I have spoken to my local specialist and they have stated that, the issue is not a pump out of timing at all in there experience. But the parts within the pump are worn and hence either need rebuilding or the pump needs replacing...

Pump retime - £150ish
Pump replace £1500 ish...

Am i being recommended an assistance to their pension, or are they actually right...

Any advice greatly appreciated as the prices are scaring me:mad:

They would not know any ways as they would have to take the pump off and send it to a Specialist! For testing if the pump has no leaks and runs in tune just get it dialed in a garage can only remove and replace a pump even a Landrover dealer hasn't the machinery to rebuild pumps and test them ignor what they are saying your best going to an injection specialist ! Ok

Even LR themselves state in the RAVE that the FIP needs to be retimed after a certain mileage.

A refurbed pump could be in the region of £600 to purchase, plus the cost of fitting and retiming...

The official problem with the Diesel FIP is that the drive chain stretches and puts the FIP out of sync.....RAVE indicates the correct retiming tolerances to be used.

That being said, pumps do wear internally...but if you are experiancing no other problems othe rthan hot start, and your Economy is pretty solid, a retime would be the first move!
