Hi Guys,

The ongoing saga of my 2000 Dse continues!

After having the engine go bang on my in grand style on the motorway a while back I found a complete Vauxhall Omega engine locally as a replacement.
I swapped the Rangie turbo, Alternator, sump and so on over to the Omega engine but left the Omega FIP in place.

All was well and I was back on the road, Happy days! just gone out to the car today and found a puddle of Diesel under it  had a quick look and the FIP appears to be leaking a fair bit. I have been looking at the numerous threads on tackling this and they are very clear and helpful.

What I would like some advice on is this, do I repair the seals on the pump in the car without removing the pump or do I replace the seals in the original range rover pump "on the bench" and then swap the pumps over?

Cheers

Steve.

A lot easier on the bench if you know what you are doing. And you have the tooling to remove and refit the pump and time it. Positioning of the centre section is critical if you are going that far down.

If you still have your p38 pump on the fooked engine why not have it sent for recon (i did this and so glad i did) then as Wammers says get/ borrow timing tools and refit p38 pump really is simple with the correct tools and not half as scary as its made out to be. me and a friend have done around six of these now and all run spot on (proven by checking with nanocom)

PM me if you want further info on it happy to help you.

That sounds a bit beyond me! I no idea how to set the timing on a fuel pump so maybe a repair in situ might be the way forward. What I lack in knowledge I make up for with perseverance!

Nice one on the quick reply.

Its not that hard mate but its up to you. where does the leak seem to be coming from? top or bottom of the pump?

W

Hard to say, top is leaking for certain but it does seem to be losing a lot of diesel. need to clean it all off this afternoon and watch where it comes from.
I will let you know when I have had a proper look.

Cheers.

if it is the top seal thats leaking you can easily do that yourself without moving the pump seal kit about 12quid..

Keep us posted matey :)

As i said a lot easier on the bench, there you can change all the seals as long as you know what you are doing. If you don't know what you are doing, in situ can also be a nightmare.

Don't worry about the leak look how cheap the fuel is for your oil burner now and its dropping another 2p tomorrow
Diesel is €1.05 here now, that equates to £0.84 a litre:) International barrel price is down to $57.81 so expect the pump price to come down more yet.:):) We are almost back to the point where the litres clock up faster than the Euro's.:D

Cheaper where you are then. In this region 63 it's still at the 1.23euros.

I had the same problem, mine was dripping, not to bad, ordered the part on ebay form Latvia, comes as a complete gasket set, did not get the time to do it until it started peeing out. Luckily for me it was only the top gasket so was easy to change apart from a funny looking bolt that was modified (hammer and socket) all ok now.

Thanks for the input guys,

The pump seems to be leaking from the top two joints as appears to be the norm, what I have done is order two gasket sets with a view to repairing the one in position but also replacing the seals in my old pump so I have it good to go if ever needed.

I will let you know how I get on once the kits arrive.

Cheers

Steve.

Must be great to have cheap fuel, all you need now for a complete life is bsitish tea, fish n chips and a quality stake n kidney pud.

British tea I have in stock, fish & chips available if that's your thing and I make my own steak & kidney pie:)

Seal kits turned up this morning, well impressed with the prompt service.

took advantage of a dry afternoon and changed the top two seals in the pump on the car, no big problems really, just a bit fiddly locating the ball in the cup!
Managed this and fired it up, success no visible drips anywhere but I am struggling a bit to get a smooth idle, played about a bit and now have it around 900 rpm but is a bit lumpy, as soon as i pick it up over 1000 rpm it smooths out lovely so I am sure it is just a bit of fine tuning tomorrow.

A big thank you to all who were kind enough to offer their advice it was much appreciated.

You will have to slacken centre section slightly and tap it back and forth until you get a rock steady 750 RPM warm. Below 1000 rpm idle control is engaged.
