THOR V8 Fuelling: Would faulty water temp sender cause fuelling to be too rich even when engine warm ? Temp gauge never rises to even half way on dash display ( no matter how long driving ) even though new thermostat fitted. Fumes very noticable when standing beside vehicle with engine running and exhuast fumes are sucked into cabin when driving with a window or sunroof open. Just wondering also if the over-fuelling was reason the centre exhaust box exploding a while back under hard acceleration ?

If the engine temperature sensor is telling the ECU that the engine is cold it will certainly over fuel. don't know the V8 but the diesel has 2 sensors, one for the ECU and one for the gauge.
If the gauge is reading low, my first bet would be the engine thermostat.

If the ECT sensor is not hard failed then there is telling what iy would do to fuel trims. You might be better disconnecting the plug on the ECT which will force the car to drop into a predefined running mode. When the ECT on my Thor failed it was difficult to hot start so I pulled the plug until I could get a new one. The engine would always rev higher before changing up to the next gear and would never change up to to top. As a result I used more fuel but don't remember her running rich

RAVE says:
"Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor - (from 99MY)

The sensor contains two thermistors with negative temperature co-efficients; as temperature increases, the thermistor’s resistance decreases. The ECM receives a corresponding analogue input voltage between 0 and 5V.
NOTE: The temperature / resistance characteristics of the two thermistors differ, and so it is important to maintain the correct pin-outs."

And yes, it is behind alternator.
