Hi all...

Newbie here (go easy on me)

Never owned a LR before but been a long time fan and admirer of many models down the years.

I don't though have much knowledge or certainly not compared to many on here so I want to pick your collective brains.

I've up to £5K to spend and have been looking at Freelander's, inparticular I found a 2003 1.8 S Hardback model which I'm test driving tomorrow.

So I wanted to ask what peoples views are on the Freelander as I can't afford to make a bad buy and want my first Land Rover experience to be a good one.

So over to you for your thoughts on the Freelander and this particular model and any help, hints or suggestions you might be able to make. All help and advice will be greatly appriciated.

Cheers

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!

go for a doozil if yu want a hippoo.

have a look in the freelander section for faults.
Get one with the biggest, longest, most comprehensive warranty you can.

lol
Coz the petril injuned Hippoos are the crappiest engines imaginable and suffer HGF (Head gasket failure) on reliable and sufficiently frequent occasions to render you destitude, to loose your family and be consigned to a life in the Fleet prison.

for that kind of money, you could get a td4 if you deffo want a freelander. as MHM says, go through the common faults section of freelander, but in balance, also discovery too, and get an idea of what kind of trouble could befall you.

Found a nice TD4 in fantastic condition, one previous owner and spotless interior seems like a good buy.

My only hesitation is the miles on the clock, now I don't know if its just I'm new to landys and new to doozils but it is a bit off putting. Its a 53 plate and has 100k on the clock, what are peoples thoughts?

Is that okay or too high? Would like the benefit of the knowledge and opinion of you guys as I've a feeling this shouldn't be putting me off as most second hands seem to be circa 80k to 100k.

Thoughts?

you want a nice disco 2 v8 with lpg conversion..51 plate all the toys.
your for £4900

1 - dont get a petrol gaylander
2 - 100k is nothing for a looked after diesel
3 - ask youself what you going to be doing with it (offroad)
4 - if your doing and serious offroading dont buy a gaylander

Well folks today I purchased my first Land Rover.... should be getting it on Monday and I can't bloody wait.

I picked up an imaculate 2003 Freelander (TD4 ES Premium) so thanks to those of you that offered your advice, I didn't follow all of it as I still got a Freelander. However I did listen to those of you who made helpful suggestions like to go for the TD4 and stay away from the petrol ones which look like total dogs. Some of that advice has helped me a lot so thanks - looks like I might be sticking around on here from now on.

Cheers guys
