Well after a nice drive of over 100 miles with 3 kids and a bulldog it wasn't a pleasant experience. Had all my windows open still wasn't good enough with the heat. My disco 300tdi doesn't have air con so complains and cries all round including the dog suffering in the boot.

I think I'm going to have to sell her and get something with air con:mad::mad:. So my what should I do part ex and get something from a dealer as such or try my luck on fleabay :violent: and see if I can get a little swap on there.

Help me choose I want to try and stay 4x4 route if I can as I need the room for the family.

Thanks Danny

Back in the days before air con people just opened the windows . Plus realistically how much sun do we actually get every year, would it warrant selling your vehicle just for the sake of air con which may not even be used all that much.
Why not fit aircon? Surely it can't be overly difficult

I don't know wether it is difficult but it would probably not be worth the cost really. It's also just one of the many luxuries that the disco doesn't have that I would like. Might end having to sell her soon anyway as the wife is learning to drive but can't change gears :mad:

a moped ! aircon comes free :D

get rid of the misses, sell the kids and let the dog sit in the front with the window day,oh and man up :D

I meant what other luxuries?

I don't know what other luxuries my Disco could have other than pie in the sky stuff like starting during the winter.

So I wondered what the op had in mind that he was missing out on.

I've always considered aircon to be one of the most useful safety aids you can get in a car. Keeps the screen clear in the winter (dries the air) and keeps you cool in the summer. Hot, frustrated drivers stuck in traffic queues can be bloody careless. My series is fun and I love it to bits but for anything long distance and rough I'll need something more sophisticated. 2 grand will get me a nice little Forrester, reasonable rough track ability, aircon, decent heater, comfy seats and plenty of room. Oh, and reliable.

I asked my usual mechanic if knew anyone good to service my air con and he said just open a window all it does is use fuel. But that's his attitude to most things unfortunately.

Then i was in kwik fit having a puncture repaired, not out of choice but necessity and I asked them about their air con recharge and to my surprise they didn't just do it and bill me they said to go and get it tested properly first due to the age of the vehicle. They also said if you look at it, driving with an open window probably causes more drag and uses more fuel than turning the air con on does.

Still haven't gotten it tested or "recharged" yet though.

Well I would preferably like a car that doesn't bleed on my drive, maybe a bit more fuel efficient and one that doesn't have mood swings.

It's very annoying though with kids complaining that they are hot, a dog that can't stay cool and a wife that says she hates the car.

Yep that was the way, we had what we called a 2 60 ac unit. Roll down 2 windows and go 60mph:p:rolleyes:

Still drive with the window 1/2 way down with the ac on:D
