Just brought my freelander out of the bargain bucket. V reg 3 door Di with steel wheels.

Obviously the first thing i did was change oil filter, fuel filter etc and have cambelt to come.

I found lots of gremlins i didnt see when i first brought it. I have looked on the forums as much as i can but cannot see any definate answer to a few questions of mine:

1, The car has had a replacement aftermarket head unit and the digital clock no longer works. Is this linked? I found something on a website somwhere saying somthing about a connector but i cant find it now for the life of me.

2,It is currently sitting on steel wheels. I hastily went and brought some sexy sounding triple sport alloys for it with no tyres, then thought about costs of new tyres. I have no problem with putting part worns on it whilst i have the prop off (fuel+wear saving) but at some point i will put it in 4wd. Would 4 matching tyres be preferred? Also do most people go for 16's insead of 17s because of the cost? I am thinking of just spraying the steels now if it costs too much.

3, is it recommended to change diff oils or transfer box oils? its done 130k and its 12 years old. If so how much and what type of oil?

Are there any other things i should be thinking of doing straight away? I'm not sure how long i will be keeping it as i was looking for a disco really but this came up at the right price

Many thanks for looking

Anything you can't find the answer to, post in the Freelander section ;)

One thing I have noticed since the short time I have been on this website that you always get a straight answer!

If you're going to put AT tyres on go with 15" or 16". There's a very limited choice of tyres for 17's. Yes, put a matched set of tyres on, it'll save your VCU.
