can anyone shed any light on why these rear shocks aren't sitting right? It's a disco 24 spline axle on a 1992 200tdi 90 chassis with police spec red/white springs. Everything is fitted as per including the domed washers either side of the bushes and nothing appears bent? Is there a difference between earlier too mounts and later? Thanks in advance

That was taken at full articulation just to show how bad the problem is

That's why some people who run a lift or want massive articulation fit modified shock absorber brackets that allow pin to pin shocks to be fitted. It gives you a little bit more movement.

Oh granted yeah, don't get me wrong I totally understand that and I do agree with what your saying, I'm not fussed with the articulation flex of the bushes as such, that's to be expected to a certain degree, but surely they aren't sitting correctly in the other pics either though? That last shot is taken with all 4 feet firmly on the ground but the upper mount isn't square in that bush, not by a long shot. When fitting them, I had to literally push the bottom of the shocker over to meet the lower mount because it's natural angle when bolted up at the top was putting the lower pin mount somewhere near the disc

Thats going to put an awful lot of side load on the shocks chrome push rod.
I reckon its because you have lifted the car by what looks like a couple of inches.
Ive got the terrafirma pip to pin set up with 5 inch plus shocks, does it make any difference? I havent a clue as the car came with this set up, but did fit the same shocks again when they eventually packed up.

bottom of the shock is mounted incorrectly - yu need to remove the cups welded on to the axle. wont alter the top - but the bottoms are definitely incorrect.

why have yu got two washers on the outside at the top - that is also incorrect.

*NOTE – For long travel (+2” and longer) shocks it is an advantage to remove the metal bush cups found on post 1994 Defenders and Discovery rear axles, this will allow unrestricted movement of the lower shock mount.
 Allowing the shock bush washers to contact the metal bush cup can cause premature shock failure.

Mine are a bit that way too ... not had any problem with them since fitting.
