Hi guys. Thought it might be interesting to tell of my problem and cure for the Freelander 1 td4 thermostat change in case it might help someone else. As anyone will tell you changing the thermostat on these is a nightmare. Mine had the original one fitted form 2006, this being an Austrian housing with more curves and half covered torx bolts than you'd find on a Scalextric set. Bought my new thermostat and housing through my local factors. This was by a firm called First Choise, nice straight edges to work with so bolts weren't half covered on replacement. Once the torx bolts were out, this i did by removing drivers front wheel and wheel arch liner. Also aquiring an 8mm torx ratchet spanner was well worth the purchase at £8 as it saves a lot of effort and swearing. The thermostat housing can then be wriggled through the aperture in the wheel arch.. on replacing the thermostat and housing i found (by total luck ) that the the bolts that hold the cover on the top of the injectors are the same size and length as the torx bolts ,much easier to fit/grip than waste of space torx. removal time, bloody hours! fitting time with straight edged housing and hex head bolts, half an hour! Hope i have explained myself well enough and this is of some help
