Have a feeling my stat is either missing or stuck open Did around an 80 mile journey temp barely got out of the cold reading except when stuck in traffic then the most it would rise to is half way drops of when on the move again or when heater on which is warmish, also the on going saga of the "sweating" around the stat housing/pipe to stat the Sweating seems to be where the housing cover joins housing? Is it possible to remove the stat in situ??

funny that i am having the same issue with my FL2 diesel
temp gauge sitting at the bottom when driving but rises to halfway when stationary for a while
my thoughts are that the thermostat is stuck open

Yes it'll be the thermostat, although LR call it a temperature control module.
Make sure you get an OE, not cheap one as they are a ball ache to replace.

You didn't say why engine.
TD4: you can fit an in line thermostat in the top hose.
1.8 K series: replace the thermostat assembly.
2.5 k series: replace the thermostat.
Hope that helps
sorry Nodge TD4 2005, can that be done in situ? reason for asking is if its a drop the engine job as in doing the water pump , The garage I use where its booked for January is there a "kit" available for the conversion as I would have to buy this before the car goes in (I supply the parts they give me a good price for fitting) As I asked you little while back concerning damp patch round the hose to the stat housing as water cannot travel up hill so to speak I was wondering if the housing seal was leaking,I take it this would be a lowering/raising of the engine to do this Job?

Fitting a secondary in line thermostat in the top hose isn't a long job, and can be done in 30 minutes or so.

Replacing the factory thermostat is a 4 hour ordeal, hence why most people simply fit an in line thermostat.

Gerry do you have a manual or Auto, if manual i think i may have an hose with a gates stat already inserted into to it, i would need to double check though.

Good morning I have a manual td4 freelander 1

Trust me… an offer of a hose with an in-line stat already inserted for you is a god-send!

It’s not a tough job, nor long job, but it’s a bloody awkward one the first time round!

Would you know a good supplier for a new top hose for a TD4 please?
