The V8 Kettle Fettle: Help & Ideas thread.

Hi guys

So, here's an idea I've been "brewing" since last winter, to mount a kettle on the Bank 2 exhaust header.

There's quite a lot of space on the drivers side in my car and the header shape itself would lend itself to a mounting.

The principle is why would I drive to a location and then brew up when I can start my water boiling whilst i am en route to my location.

I'm not sure if it would actually work but I though, tbh, I can't not!

Here is a pic if what in thinking:

You can see there is plenty of room for some mounting atop that drivers side header.

The kettle is like this:

But considerably more battered!

I was thinking I would need a metal plate, and then some support for the plate, maybe some steel bar welded on to support it off the header, and then a steel strap to hold it all down (kettle fettle is removable, not a permanent fix)

Or maybe I am over thinking it and just need to strap the kettle to the header?

Need to get this sorted before winter time you see hence planning it now.

Ideas appreciated, anyone tried anything similar previously?

You may arrive with a completely empty kettle though? Haha depends how long the drive is, would be interesting to see

Sorry chaps been away for few day:

Yeah I was thinking about running heater circuit into the car to heat water but wouldn't be hot enough and regards boiling the kettle away yes I would set a timer and work how long it takes on average and then set it off boiling when I think I am the correct time away from destination.

Would only use it when it's clean pal! It's mainly for that "first brew when you get to the meet point" on a laning day than anything else

Had thought about that and it's a good idea, better idea in fact, if I was wanting regular hot water, but the thing is the circulating water would boil so it would have to be a pressure system and frankly it would be a PITA and more engineering than I need!

Anyway, I'm thinking round plate 4mm steel, to fit inside the kettle bottom lip, ideally welded onto the exhaust but might not so will probably weld exhaust clamps onto it, then it needs a spring over the kettle.

Water temp sensor in the kettle would be too geeky right?

you could go high tech, you'd need a pressure vessel like a steel header tank and a temp gauge on it which when it gets near boiling temp 120* under pressure the element detaches via electric motor on a thermostatic switch

Lol, dude, gonna try kettle on exhaust first

Won't lie, I did consider a circulated hot water type system.

Not many Landys that have a hot water tap
