Does bull-bars provide any protection in traffic accidents?

Real bullbars are... Not the namby pamby light guard thingys you get here (albeit because of legislation). That's why they're called "bull-bars", so when you hit a bull (or a roo-bar for roos in Oz) it doesn't damage your car

Bull**** legislation! My bumper is probably completely wrong but it works and the MK2 will be even beefier but better aesthetically with an integrated ARB style bullbar albeit a squarer version as its easier to work with box than tubing but still the idea remains the same

I shall start a new thread later when I begin building it

If anyone with a disco wants a deadly bumper that'll f*ck up anything it hits PM me!



All that being said though my bullbar did put a nice dent in a shogun a while back and that was the stock one!
 
The head on with the megane is a very unfair test. Renaults pride them selves at making cars with a 5star safety rating. the disco was a few years older that the megan to start with and only has a 2/3 star rating. Is a pointless and unfair test as while discos haven't changed much over 20 years new cars are being built to different spec. Even when new I don't think anyone expected to be able to drive through other cars. All this stems from the nissan patrol whose chassis used to ride over other cars in an accident. They should of used some jap crap in that test and shut all the paj owners up.

In OZ there are two different bars the BULL Bar is a lot heavier construction, than the ROO bar . The most bars sold in UK would come under the ROO level of protection . That is they will help keep the car driveable after hitting a kangaroo or emu ! The bull bar will handle a roo or emu without sacrificing the bar in the process . I have a ARB bull winchbar on my 110 and can vouch for it saving considerable damage on several occasions !! mainly roos, an emu and 1 large male goat . It also wrote off a escort that came onto my side of the road round a bend , it removed the wing and pushed the door back 4 inchs , my repair amounted to a couple of minutes spray with a can of low sheen black!! So looks like it uses the other vehicles crumple Zone :D

on a side note, these are land rover (britpart) 200 shape lamp guards, much more HD than the 300 type, bloody heavy too!

i welded a few more brackets onto the bumper, so they are suprisingly strong now, fitted them because i kept smashing indicators.

Thats the plan :D zombies and deer probably :p it's already a proven slitty killer as its taken out a micra and avensis killer :eek:

I'm probably going to hack the bottom and side pieces off keeping the mid section to work with as its set up using box section supports and 6mm mounts I think, after that I'll get some pieces laser cut this time round and tack them together then onto the main frame before I weld it up with a proper seam on both sides :)

Might leave some mounting points for a train style cow catcher :rolleyes:

BTW - I'm back up your neck of the woods for a weeks peace and quiet from Saturday. Current plan is to come up in the Landy, provided this works out do you want to mete up for some lanes? Have you driven the Old Coach road yet?
