Nice one. Is pressbrake back in business again???

Got enough metal to make another 4 cross members, then I start my new job, money for food every week:D cant wait

A pal who bought my pressbrake and other heavy machinery when I lost my first workshop(ive been folding and cutting at his, very strange asking to borrow stuff that was once your own!) will be taking over production alongside his digger attachment business.
Hes a top fabricator and I'll be helping out evenings for a bit of pocket money;)

Not much done today, was going to cut off the rear x member but found rust along and up towards spring hangers so without the chassis rails, there was no point starting there.
So decided to tackle some of the other holes i found along the chassis.

Cut the soft metal out and made up new section to weld in.

Tied up the loom with some wire through hole in top of chassis.

welded in new section. One day ill get the hang of this welding lark. One side went great, the other side blew holes in the metal. Trying to fill holes for ages. Went through more grinding wheels than welding wire. Not happy:(

Maybe the steel on the side it kept burning through was slightly thinner than the other, its very easy to burn through light stuff, looking good though :)

What part of sligo are you in?

Hi Will, im in Curry. Thats exactly the problem i had. Should have put a plate behind first really. I wanted to butt joint the patch as im not a lover of lap joints.

Not far from myself so mate, im just other side of kilkelly. Yeah butt jointing makes even harder, might been bit thicker further out from the rust

Yeah do, always trying find new spots around to have a spin around :) . Had mine off the road till couple weeks ago, DOE on saturday, not finished all the jobs on it but forgot to sign it off the road for the tax so i'll sign it off the road in the summer again to do few more bits. No, couldn't afford to run it daily 60 mile round trip to work and home. You use yours daily normaly?

Sold both of mine to the wife because owed too much tax;).She sorned them off the road and ill but them back when done;). I only have to drive to Charlestown to pick up firms van. I heard that any new vans owners trying for doe had to have vat no. and be registered self employed unless youve owned it for some time? might have to leave in wifes name or will be paying 600ish for road tax:(

Bet its handy not having far to drive to work, my daily is a passat its getting about double the mileage than the disco. Yeah i owe tax back till may last year and i thought about doing that but have heard of a few that couldn't get commercial tax, so think its safer pay back the couple hundred than risk being stick with €1,080 or whatever it is now for a 2.5, probably gone up since i had seats in

Well Mick, I'm finally getting round to prepping for the Blacksheep rear cross member and chassis arms. Started making the jig up today. Just need to add the support legs and then some bits of 25 x 3mm to locate all the bracket positions.

For some reason I can't attach more than 1 pic from my ipad :(

God, i thought you posted one of my early photos up again. Same colour and state of progress Good luck with the work.Keep the photos coming thick and fast as im out of action for a while now so will be watching your build avidly. I know you said you are putting in support legs and you will need them as that xmember has some weight to it.
Good luck.

Cheers Mick. I keep looking at the rest of it thinking "how the hell am I going to get all this done?" but I then just think "one bit at a time". Until I get to the wiring and the engine and the.....:)

Old cross member off, new one on! (and christ knows why the thumbnail's upside down but click on it and it isn't - ???)

Blimey, thats some support youve welded up there. I welded my support arms to the spring seats. Im hopping that welding it front and back of the seats will stop it twisting. Im going to wait till i can get some dinitrol and spray it in the ends of the chassis before i weld the chassis extensions on. Good luck with yours. Am watching with interest. How far back are you cutting the chassis rails. the sides of mine are not bad just past the wiring loom exit hole but the bottom is rotton up to the anti roll bar brackets. also how much lap are you going to give it?
