Well we didn't go last year so the only thing we have to compare it to is Eastnor the year before and while that was a different type of event the main difference we noticed was that at Eastnor the marquee was more central and used as the main hub by everyone, at Stanford Hall everyone seemed to stay in their own camp areas most of the time. I think this was down to the space available but it would be cool if we could set the marquee up in the middle and then everyone pitch around it rather than spread over such a large area.

I think the issue with marquee location is elecktrickery. Buckets of that is heavy to lug across a field.

I hope my sprogs didn't distress peeps too much. Apart from the loom band sales. Emilie enjoyed the fact she could run around in her wellies the whole weekend. Such a welly lander that one!! Tom has got over his 'dog' thing. Apart from purdey getting excited a puncturing his football - he is now not absolutely petrified of dogs. He'll still hold back, but he will now stroke a dog!

Nothing to do with me as I was not there, but another club I belong to sell the entry ticket and bookings for food separately, so you have the entry price then a list of dinners, breakfasts etc that you can book and pay for. The organisers then know how many to cater for at each session limiting waste and possible financial loss for the organisers.
Just a thought that I hope might help.

I didn't know grub was included. That would have saved me cooking with a hangover and eating sun warmed- half cooked burgers with a pork pie I found under the drivers seat.

ours were free after we were told

"you put your money in the tub and you get the loom band for free"

    Made my mrs chortle

    :D

We had a great time many thanks, I think the time of year is just perfect, unless maybe it could be moved a week further forward so you could have the bank holiday included? (or does that clash with alot of peoples holidays?)

    Toilets were excellent

    Food - brilliant!

disco - good but tooooo loud. Could have been half as loud and still been good and allowed some people in the same county to talk to one another.

Top marks all round guys and gals

possibly guilty of some free range dog activity :(

other than bobdog ****ing up topcat's tent, I'm unaware if he did it anywhere else. did apologise and offer to clean it, was greeted with "its on the outside, don't worry"

purposely walked the dogs out the way for turding, and collected deposits.

its nice to allow the dogs free range, initially I was very aware of the possibility of people who aint dog friendly and watched closely for where I needed to avoid, generally within the marquee they were on leads out of consideration, but yes there were times they were free range there as well. the lead was allus with me, and other dogs were free too.

also guilty of bigdog removing some sausages off a bbq at some point. they got offered to be replaced, but again was turned down with a grin and "nah, its allreet" :D

as for the event, was going to attend last year but last minute alterations put paid to that, so this year was a first.
slightly ****ed off as I thought the nipper had Friday off school, as it was we didn't leave yarkshire till gone 4pm, then endured 5 hours of Friday rush hour. why the feck its called rush hour I dunno, cos no one can rush anywhere, and lasts all bleddy afternoon.
anyroad. landing on site I felt like others have already said. was like gatecrashing a personal party with the disco. fair play to accy, he issued the tags, had a bit of banter, and everyone else was sat round the woodburner. no idea who they all were! personally tho, I had no issues with this and assumed I'd meet people later on (which I did)

Friday night, bit of beer on our pitch, me and the ginger one (t'other half) took turns tripping to the marquee while the other stayed near the nipper in the pikeywagon. no issues, talked, generally enjoyed it.

saturdays laning made it for me. initially said I wasn't going laning, (due to saving diesel) but ended up putting me name down. steady pace, mixture of motors, good people. the camardarie started after ponty fell of the road on a lane which broke the ice between us. the teamwork just gelled after that, and I take great pleasure in thanking everyone in route 1 @ 2pm for being who they were. even at the penultimate lane, where we bumped into another group, the teamwork and camardarie inter group was good.
back on site following a recovery, my beer started early during repairs, which in itself, attracted the vultures/****takers/advisors/assistants/etc, and the banter continued. I know the chap that broke was grateful, and its this type of stuff I enjoy. its just how I am.

sat'day night, same as Friday's. the music was loud, but good. I did throw beer over someone due to dodgy dancing, but believe it was someone from the main site :eek:

sunday, the intention was allus to head home, departed about 11am, and made a point of stopping at the marquee to say thanks and shake hands.

would I change anything? no. it all worked as far as I'm concerned, and I said all my thankyou's on another thread.
would I come back next year? well, that depends ;) a lot can change in a year!
    probably, possibly, maybe!

    :D

some really good ideas- we tried to incorporate some of the suggestions from the year before and bits definately were better but its always good to know more ways to improve. :)

Food- Like the idea of the food tickets beforehand - we can't do the same as this year just not possible ( unless anyone else is brave/foolhardy enough to try :D ) and without confirmed numbers we can't get catering vans interested - will have to ponder on this

Toilets - they are soooo expensive - think we could have done with an extra blue tardis toilet placed on the far side of the field in addition to the cabins by the entrance - that shouldn't be too expensive. Re toilet stationery- we can allocate that to be someones job next year to keep the loos stocked up

Noise- we did have a few complaints about the Friday night when I went back to the site on the Moday to return the key - (ROY- you know I'm talking to you !!! ) but overall Sharon said it hadn't caused too many problems but on a personal note - having cooked since the early hours and then spending all day putting up marquees and tents then doing the BBQ and generally rushing about I had a distinct sense of humour fail when the music carried on past 1.15am and to say I was ****ed off was an understatement. If we're selling this as a family event - I'm not sure how playing " you can't say c**t in canada at full volume at 1am fits with it myself

Marquee- as has been said - we have to go by the entrance because of the power cables - if we put it in the middle we lose power ( apparantly ) and although we had one genny -kindly donated by Listerdeseil- anything else costs a considerable bit more

Introductions- we can certainly have fixed times to meet and greet and we could hand out flyers when you sign in with the info on

Badges- we listened from last year- got badges and the feckin things kept flipping over to the blank side - next year- double sided badges :D

Dogs- well I'm not overly keen myself but could tolerate them but they were a royal pain in the arse when we were cooking and a couple nearly ended up in the microwave if they hadn't of fecked off when they did - we need to baricade the area off or they need to be on leads around the marquee- or alternatively shoot the lot of them ( but apparantly that's not friendly or allowed :D )

Dates- we can't have the BH at the site- they already have the VW rally in May and other BHols are the caravan's busiest times - we could look to have it later on - but we have to be trying to stay away from the Landy Shows that start happening from June onwards to Sept

As said before - I am all for considering alternative venues for this event and having it northern one year and southern the next might be an option but it means people have to bring viable options to the forum for discussion. A lot of the stuff we have learnt from the last couple of years can be transfered to another location but other stuff you'd have to source in that location so If you fancy it up north then come up with some sites to hold it ,costings ,toilet hire, genny hire , food supplies/catering arrangement costings, hotel accomodation - you also need to sort out a little band of organisers in that area- trust me - its too big to do by yourself and then put it to accy and roy to consider. The lanes are generally the bit that's the easiest bit to organise - don't just say we have cracking lanes can we have it up here- we need more meat on the bone to make a decision to change it

I personally enjoyed the event, unfortunately I could only get there Saturday morning. Nevertheless the laning was awesome and so was the company, although like people have been saying, would have been nice to have had a meet and great. I think this would stop people retreating to their camps a little more and maybe stick around the main marquee, either that or a communal fire pit/bonfire? :D

As for the main marquee in the middle of the field, is there more too it than a long extension lead? :p
