HI Guys just to let you know that after 2 head failures and lots of other repairs with a total bill in 30 month of £3,400 ish I have got rid of my freelander.
To anyone reading this thinking of getting a 1.8 Petrol please please go for TD.
I took all the advise i could listened and read every post on this site about H/G and still went through 2 the last one was fitted by a garage the new Multilayer job plus new oil rail bolts the lot head skimmed new water pump new belts you name it it was done 2300 miles later bang water pump gone stat housing cracked could be rubbish garage work but i think not he has been around 20 odd years and i know him very well just rubbish freelander.
I hope no one ever buys a 1.8 petrol again let them all rot on the garage showroom plus the road tax will be over £400 pound a year in 2010 not that far away
Never think it wont happen to you coz it will that’s what i thought I love freelanders but will never ever buy one again not even a TD.

If you had done your homework then you would never have bought that ****e in the first place.

Saabs are expensive to repair, but fairly good build quality, however it seems that you have once again bought without research again.

Sorry to hear about your woes. I was luck enough to know about the 1.8 petrols & went for the Td4 which I have so far been delighted with.
Good luck with your next car whatever it may be. Toyotas Rav4 is an excellent petrol 4x4 if a little on the pricey side.
