Wish we had made the break. Herself was in an in-demand profession (theatre recovery sister) but she wouldn't leave her kids here in the UK.
Its not all utopian down here. Its a wonderful place (if you like it), but for Brits it is a long way from "home" and family. Plus you still need to graft to pay the bills, and the guttering still leaks and the Landie still breaks down :)

lots find out it is not for them.

well done and I must say all the New Zealand people I have met are really nice people here in the uk the towns seem to be getting more aggressive. in London if you fell over in the street (I know ) people would just walk on by but when I was in NZ I was just resting my legs and a lady came up and asked if I was ok . I should have more there in 1974 but my big accident stopped me .

I know. Friends went all the way to Oz (Adelaide) and complained after 15 Mths that it "Wasn't like the UK". ?????
Not sure what they expected. We lived in the US (California) for 2 years and ...nope, not at all like the UK. LOL.
Missed my chance there too. Was offered, but ...circumstances. Still doing OK though. Retired now and managing.

That's funny 'cos my mum and dad shifted us down here in '74, when I was 9. They/we lasted 2 years but moved back to the UK.
