I am looking at fitting a Nokia, CK-7W, handsfree kit to my Freelander which has the factory fitted Alpine (I think), Radio/Cassete head unit and under seat CD multi changer.
I have this kit fitted to Er Indoors Vectra and it works a treat-mutes the radio/CD and the telephone call is played through the car speakers. When the call is finished, the radio/CD sound returns.
I would like this feature on the Freelander....has anyone done it or have experience of the facility

The Nokia kit comes complete with a separate speaker, as a last resort I will use that, but would like to know if there is a "Mute" wire in the Alpine wiring connector.

:)

Er Velcro? Sorry Rover, too technical for me!! Mine has buttons on steering wheel and I always forget they are there. Most unhelpful - I know!:)

I have a Motorola kit fitted to my 01 freelander ES. Same as yours. The kit works brilliant cuts music off on calls or texts and when finished music back in. Very good bit of kit didn't do it myself but would recomemend one.

There is different ways of doing it. If you dont have mute feature, most handsfree you can get to go in between the speaker cables. So the handsfree will override the stereo.

You meed to buy a Nokia Mute Kit specific to your car, this will automatically mute the stereo and put the call audio through the speakers. If you can`t find one i`ll give you my suppliers contact number.

Thanks for the replies Guys.
I have a Nokia 6680 phone and there is a dedicated Nokia cradle available. The data cable from the CK-7W also doubles up as a phone charger. The phone is almost the same as a custom fit unit and I have always found the Nokia kit to be excellent.
I know there are alternatives available, e.g. "Parrot" kits but I prefer to stick with the Nokia.

Yes and it works well - works just as well when I transferred it to my X-T as well :)

Howya doin MHM ???...........I think I have followed you over from the Rangie forum-didn't realise that you were wearing two "Mad Hats" :hysterically_laughi
Bit more sedate on here than next door but still basically sound helpful guys. I'm a bit of a greenhorn regarding the F/lander but I'm learning fast !!
I had the CK-7W kit fitted to the P38 but couldn't be arsed to remove it when I sold it...I could kick myself !
However, they are reasonably priced on Ebay and readily available. I had looked at Autoleads and noticed there are a few connector variations. I suppose I will have to remove the head unit and have a look at the connector type to confirm.
I suppose that I am a Dinasaur still using the Nokia 6680 instead of one of the "I-phones" but it does everything that I need from a phone, I don't need access to the Web...I have a laptop and desktop for that !!

Anyway, I'm going off topic...nice to hear from you...All the best Bud :beer2::tea:

ck7w is a 4 wire install, switch live, permanent live, ground and 5v switch line for radio mute.

depending on your head unit, the mute facility may or may not be there. Bizarrely, I have the philips c42 with alpine multi changer. the mute facility is on the head unit but there is no pin for it in the loom or the plug onto the back of the head unit.

I robbed a pin from an old loom, fitted it into the right place on the plug and it works a treat. If you are listening to cd when the phone rings, it even pauses the cd.

I'll have found the wiring info.

Thanks Guys for that super info. and the connector view. Looking on Autoleads website, they mention two types of connector for the F/lander 1. One is "Round pins" (BMW type) and the other is flat pins.
Either way, I feel that I can sort it out..........If I can't, I will pop up again.
:praise:

Very true :).

Didn't see them when posted :p

I'll be honest with you, I editted the post to add the wiring diagram, found it on my hard drive easier than I thought.

For what it's worth, the CK7W draws so little power, I just piggy backed all the connections on the back of the radio, works fine, there is a space above the glove box on the passenger side where the CK7W controller can sit, speaker in the footwell, control button comes out beside the ashtray, microphone up inside the a pillar trim behind the headlining and out the side of the roof cubby box.

good luck with this

Thanks for that info. OP.....much appreciated !!!
Saves me getting my thinking cap on regarding where to put what.
As my original post, on Er Indoors Vectra I bought a lead from Autoleads which enables the ICE to be muted and the phone playback to come through the front speakers. Do I need an adaptor/lead to achieve the same on the F/lander.
On my old P38, which also had the CK-7W fitted, I picked up the mute lead on the connector and wired the mute from the Nokia harness to mute the radio/CD and the phoen playback was through the Nokia kit speaker.
The playback quality in the Vectra is far superior to that from the standalone Nokia speaker fitted to the P38.
Full oil/filter changes tomorrow on the TD4, but I will get round to the handsfree in a week or so and post the outcome with a few pic's.
:):)

if you use the nokia speaker then you won't need any other leads. The autoleads (and similar kits) just divert the audio through the vehicle speakers instead.

I had an early parrot kit which used the car speakers and wasn't convinced this was the way to go as there was a fair amount of cutting out / feedback.

Since then, I've seen many other parrot systems which seem to be fine so perhaps just one bad install.

the nokia speaker can be a little tinny, but works fine for me. I have a spare one if you need it, can be yours for just postage.

For the record, CK7W 4 wire install as follows: black to vehicle ground, yellow wire for radio mute, blue to ignition switched line, red to permanent 12V, all of these are behind the head unit.
