I was using a torque to yeild computerised wrench back in 78 , we had to pay a royalty every time it was used !!

Yeah, we didn't use torque to yield 'cos we needed elasticity in the joints. TTY was just a tad too much .. ;) When we did use it in preliminary tests, 'cos that was the obvious route, the joints failed prematurely compared to joints that were tightened with the bolts done to a short way before yield.

Did you use the Ingersoll Rand wrenches? I used to have to calibrate and service them too.

Not sure what make , I had a feeling it was american . It was air driven , and if didnt get a green at end had to remove bolt and start again . we were using on cylinder heads
 
Yeah cylinder heads work best with TTY, but because our joints were rotational with different forces, TTY wasn't suitable.
