Can anyone please explain what this part does and how it does whatever it does.

Reason for asking is that sometimes I'm having trouble engaging 1st (manual gearbox), and I did replace the bias springs and plate a while back, but it was never really perfect, so after mooching around LZ, I see that this can also break, so may need replacing as well.

Ta muchly :)

You should have replaced it when you was there cos it's reachable when the bias plate is off, if it's cracked it can give hard gear change
you can deduce how to get to it from the diagram, it's nr 40, when the plate is off remove nr.39 and 41 and there you are

Will have to be done on my box as well, as I have issues with reverse light. I will need to remove the yoke and repair where it is worn. Also will change the bushing as I am there.
I have not done it yet as I could solve the reverse light problem on a temporary way (removed the washer).
As the video mentions, take care not to drop anything inside the box while you open it.

Just be aware that in your first post it's about the pivot bush and the video is about the yoke which obviously are not the same,, you'll see that the yoke is smaller... the part in the first post is FRC9985, nr 4 here http://www.allbrit.de/UNI.cfm?PAGE=817378&SPRACHE=EN and the video is about FTC2203 nr 9 here http://www.allbrit.de/UNI.cfm?PAGE=817237&SPRACHE=EN .... though if you go there anyway better change them both cos both are plastic, if you get to the yoke the bush will be already removed

Thanks Sierrafery. :)
In that case, I'm still none the wiser about what FRC9985 actually does, I've looked at the gearbox service manual and from my own interpretations of the diagrams, it just eems to keep the gearstick located, but I'm fairly sure there's more to it than that, or is it that simple?

I can't explain you what it actually does but i know that if it's worn or cracked it ruins the gear change smoothness, as it's name sais IMO it acts like a bush in other places, see from minute 3 the first video and you'll figure it out: http://www.onlinegearboxparts.com/product/discovery-1-2-lt77-r380-slickshift-inc-td5/ ... i have that kit fitted and it's good

to get to the yoke you have to remove the housing nr1 in the first allbrit link

Right, now it makes sense. It's effectively just to hold the gearstick in place... I was getting confused because all the various cut-outs in it. I thought they had some purpose, but after watching that video, they don't.
