OK, so my 300 tdi had to go so I bought a 2006 tdv6 . Ive had it 4 weeks and already I have the dreaded EPB screech and now not working. Any advivce please.
BUT
As the title asks has any one got a good word to say about them. I'm really not too happy at the moment as whilst google ing my problem Ive seen all the bad reviews and comments about these vehicles. Are they really that bad ???
Thanks
Frank

I think there's good and bad with all. I've had a few so called unreliable vehicles that have proven to be reliable and viseversa. You only hear the bad, as people don't report on things when all is well.

On a good note, I have driven a Disco with the TDV6 and it had a great power delivery, and was very smooth and quiet. So there you go, I've said a good thing about it. ;)

Ive just got a quote from our local Land Rover main agent. There must be cheaper ways than this ??
Rear brake pads £90.00incl

Pad clip £4.76incl
Rear brake discs £128.68incl
Brake sensor £21.24incl
Park brake shoes £174.19incl
Park brake module £609.58incl
Labour for the rear brakes stripped to check the module, to fit and rebuild is 5.5hours. Our standard rate is £138.00incl per hour. we will do the repair on your vehicle at £102.000incl per hour. Total labour charge would be £561.00incl.

That's a total of £1499 .........................EEK

should you get a quote from an indie?

Come-on you own an expensive vehicle it comes with the territory, what did you expect. Get a Ford if u wish to reduce running costs. :)
Uhmm. I don't know about it being a high end vehicle but still after a lot of reading on the tinternet it would appear the "screech" is almost a joke in word for Disco 3 ownership. Apparently this could happen multiple times over time which makes me think £1500 every few years just to repair the EPB ?? That's s4it !! My300tdi went around the clock with out any significant issues cant see that with this Disco :(
I'm getting a quote form my local indi see what he can do.

Yes. It is well known happened from day one of the D3 life I understand, but I'm sure u know about the recall.
Someone I know had his fixed under recall and it lasted a few years I believe until two months ago, the LR main dealer took it back in and fitted 'issue two' of whatever or the part is, although he had to pay a nominal charge of only £80, only due to it being low mileage and just 7 years old and had regular servicing by the dealer.

So he's happy and thinks the D3 is brilliant and suits him fine.. whatever I say :)

That's an interesting point, thanks. I will have chat with them and see. i have done a very quick add up using non standard pars and the EPB unit can be bought for around £355 to £420. Rear discs vary from £25 to £50 each and pads £30 to £60 and rear parking brake shoes about £55 and labour £45/hr.

My mate owns one ,55 plate Hse. Absolutely loved it and hasn't had any issues in his 2 years of ownership .Im planning to get one myself soon as the wife is expecting our first ,She hates the bmw we own but loves our 300tdi disco. The beemer is going and we'll get a Disco 3. Can't part with our pet 300tdi. Get it to an Indy and see what quote you get.

My 300tdi was a charm as well.....it was BER and i have been restoring classic vw campers for 27 years, have my own wee repair garage with spray booth and welding gear and tbh it was just way too much work and i'm really surprised just how quickly the chassis corroded in 11 months from the previous MOT.I suppose had it been a split screen Camper or T2 Bay I wouldn't have thought twice about it :'(

I can give you my brilliant indie's no and let him tell you how much of a moneypit they are, he talked me out of buying one!

Funny thing so did mine, but I didn't listen.............but what else out there can tow 3500gk which I do form time to time, can seat 7 which I regularly seat 6 and is a Manual transmission. I looked very very hard and at first I thought it an easy task but time after time the Discovery was the last one standing on my lists of possible vehicles TBH I couldn't see life towing without my old 300 it was just so good. Only time will tell with the TDV6 ?
i will keep posting on every defect, call it on on-line diary.lol
