I have a td6 which to be fair has done 160k miles with 130k done by me! i had a gearbox recon fitted a couple of years ago and it subsequently developed a kind of intermittent misfire? it feels as though an engine mounting has gone with lots of movement/ vibration and a rocking sensation. thats in neutral or when stationary in drive. Release the brake and in "crawl" ie traffic, it kind of shudders forwardIf you accelerate its fine, it only happens on tickover, and even then not all the time.
I have had both engine mountings and the gearbox mounting changed, and as a last resort i changed the toirque convertor.Alas no joy! Anyone any ideas ?

Probably an injector going down, get it on Testbook and look at the cylinder compensation values - any more than a +3 value means the injector is on its way.Or possibly a compression/valve issue.

if it happened just after b/box re fit, is there anything on the fly wheel like there is on the petrol? equivalent of the crank sensor?

i assume you would get similar symptoms on the petrol if the tabs were missisng or damaged???

To ascertain which injector is failing remove the 3 top engine covers so the injector plugs are exposed. With the engine running pull the injector plugs off one at a time, a good injector will result in a noticable drop in engine revs and the engine will vibrate more, a duff injector will show little or no fall off. Injector 1 can be replaced without taking the inlet manifold off, all the others are a lttle more involved but it is at best a mornings work. You will need a small socket set ( 1/4 inch drive) as the nuts to be removed are 8mm AF and 10mm AF and there is not a lot of room. You will also need access to a slide hammer to withdraw the injector as it will be 'coked' in. The duff injector will have the head drilled and tapped M6 to take an extractor adaptor. If you search the forum there is a very good discription of how to change the injectors with photographs. Best of Luck

Pulling injector plugs off is really not a good idea, the kind of compensation the ecu will make to ensure smooth running is much smaller than shutting down one cylinder completely.Plus there is a risk of damage to the ecu itself. Two mins on testbook will give an accurate diagnosis as to what is wrong - shouldnt be more than £30 at an independant.A decent independant will also have a slide hammer adaptor that screws onto the cap nut of the injector without drilling/tapping.Td6 injectors seem less inclined to get coked in than Td4 ones - no idea why.
