What are TD5's like? Much better, smoother road car, generally more comfortable. As good if not better offroad.

Mpg varies a lot depending on use but a good average would be 30 for a manual with an auto slightly less. De-EGR and De-Catt improves perf and mpg.

Bodies don't rot like Disco I's but chassis's can get crusty.

There can be electrical issues but you can usually find work arounds. Or buy a Nanocom diagnostic kit for £225.

GREAT CARS !!!!!!!!!!!!

LOL!

TD5 owners never mention the cracked heads, runaway engines, broken dual-mass flywheels, injector looms with oil etc etc.

They are as good or bad as the one you buy, the later the better, and if the seller can provide receipts for a new head and flywheel, so much the better.

Just as the V8 has it's own share of problems, so does the TD5.

The rest of it is pretty good, our back floor is spotless after 11 years, just sealed the sunroofs, properly, gearboxes and axles are pretty bullet-proof, ACE can be a sod, but most seem to run OK, and lastly the 3 Amigos.....

Well I Just Pruchased a late 03 plate with 50k, Full service history......a great looking vehicle.. interior needs some TLC and the body work just need a full vehicle prep.. I know is only been a few days but fingers cross I dont get major problems for a while

I also purchased a late 03 last week, so far very impressed with it. I had a 96 4.6hse range rover before but this seems to handle better on road, havent had chance to use it off road yet. Cant be any worse for repairs than the range rover that was going wrong weekly.

i really dont know wot do, i might get a really late 300tdi, wots the latest year 300tdi i can get?

i went from TDi to TD5 to my current TDV6 and the TD5 was far better than the TDi, its a bit thirstier that a TDi but nothing like my LR3!! There good all round cars-air suspension can cause problems but easily fixed!

I've recently bought an Ex BAA Security TD5 on an 03.

I didn't want to buy the early TD5 as I was worried about them being too experimental. Early production runs of any model are prone to issues that the manufacturer tends to sort out towards the end of the production run, so I was hoping to get a 03 or 04.

The vehicle has done 109k and was regularly serviced until May 09. Being at Heathrow it hadn't been thrashed. The gearbox and transfer box look to have been changed. The chap I bought it from didn't do much too it apart from MOT it.

It has only 5 seats as opposed to 7 and it's a fairly basic spec (S) but it does have toys like climate control etc. It's also coil sprung. The person who bought it off the lease company has taken the trouble to change the steering wheel and this one has the buttons for the cruise control on it. Apparenlty the lack of dashboard switch is the only thing holding it back.

Bodywork is generally very good but I will be spending a few quid on it to get minor work done.

Immediate issues are oil leak (rocker cover gasket?) ACE pipe leaking near front of engine and a faulty airflow meter. I just took it in today to someone to get it seen to. I had set aside £400 to fix immediate problems, but it's going to cost less than that. Other than that there are small jobs like door that won't open via the remote, only one key etc.

Cost £4600. It has everythig I need and nothing I don't (apart from the police style lights front and back and the battenburg etc).

First job for me is to change the front discs and pads. Paddocks here I come.
