Hi all, New here. Can I get some advice?

I had a 200tdi to introduce myself to Discoverys. Kept for a year and sold on.
Then I got a 90k 300tdi Epsom Green Auto Mint.I had looked at so many to get this one.

1st day home put over friends pit.
dropped fuel tank, zinc primed, smooth hammerite, then £80 of waxoyl went underneath over next 3 days, the underneath was absolutely as new when I finished.

Needless to say but the last 3 m.o.t it flew through.
I put gas shocks, polybushed, heavy duty steering rods, gas steering damper.

It drove beautifully!

I loved my Tdi and when my head gasket went, no trauma I fixed myself, £20 skimmed head, £25 gasket set, no probs 2 days back on road.

Then in July a moron in a 13 tonne coach who owned the road hit me head on and skidded 27ft UPHILL!!! pushing my Tdi back 3ft in the process.

NCAP? rating no good on a Tdi? well I stepped out of vehicle without a scratch!:crazy_driver:

Tdi?......CAT B write off :mad: :mad: :mad::doh::mad:

ABSOLUTLEY GUTTED:5bbanghead:

Now after 4mths of searching I am having more difficulty than before finding a Tdi in good nick, (oh and if you have one I'd like a Epsom green, ES,Biege Int Auto :p)

SO NOW I AM CONSIDERING SWITCHING TO A Td5
?

I know nothing about them except everyone I ever speak to reckon the 300Tdi was the best, you can work on them yourself, mpg I got 30+ parts cheap. only downside corrosion.

Td5 I see it being complex to work on and expensive if goes wrong, am I right and what should I look for in a good used one, what should I avoid?

oh any thoughts on V8i - LpG converisons?

I really dont know what to get now? another 300tdi and spend some on it or go for a ES Td5 or (ES Td5 V8i-LPG)

Sorry for the long post. But I am getting desperate for a new Disco as been on courtesy car until friday. So I got to bite the bullet and my budget is up to 6k.

Help/Advice/Suggestions most welcome Thanks

6k will get you a good TD5. And a 300 with change. But as you say, finding the right one takes time.

The TD5 disco isnt that bad for a DIY,er.

I've had a TD5 for 2 and 1/2 years. I've had to fix a heap of niggly faults that are common on TD5's when they get on a bit. I've found it pretty easy to work on. Parts have been cheap enough too mostly. Corossion wise they are pretty good, except for the top of the windscreen, and the rear section of the chassis.

The show stoppers are the oil pump bolt working loose and head gasket or cracked head issues. The later engines have better heads apparently. Other than that the motor is solid I think.

Cheers, Andy
