Mate popped down yesterday in his td5 truck cab 90, straight thru system on etc, I'm rather taken by the power it possesses and that roar 5cyl burble which makes me wonder about getting a 90 for the farm or replacing the 300 disco with a d2

Now I know it's a can of worms but is there much difference in pullin performance/ general performance between a 90 or a d2 with all that extra weight?? And tbh if it were a d2 route would I notice any benefits over the d1 with all my off road bits to a stdish d2?

I was TDi all the way through, and was truly sceptical of TD5s and all their electronics, like alot.

But they won me over. My mate has got a 90 TD5 with similar mods, and it's nothing short of awesome. The engine after a larger IC and a remap pulls like a train and sounds awesome.

Bearing in mind you can map them, and bolt extras galore on to up the performance (if it's a good unit to start with) you can take it all the way to 200BHP with oodles of torque. At that power I think you'll be amazed at the grunt on offer whether you're in a 90 OR a D2.

So I'd say think more about the base vehicle and what you want from THAT. The performance side of it, you can work on and I don't think after a tune in a D2 you'd be thinking 'This is great, but it would be better in a 90'

As for reliability, well there's 2 sides to that coin. Some have nothing but trouble, some say they're as reliable as the best TDis, I guess it's down to luck, but more so making sure you land the right one in the first place.
