Hi
I have changed fuel filter and oil filter and oil today on td5 defender 2005.
I have overfilled the oil by what I think is 2 liters. At first the car started but now it won't start, when I crank the engine I get a flashing check engine light and will not start. Is there a sensor that stops it from starting due to overfilling oil??????????:

I have now realised that the problem is no fuel getting to engine, but still have not started the engine it is still cranking but no start, not even close.
could it be the crank case sensor
could it be purge valve on fuel filter
could it be I need a new fuel pump

The pump is working but maybe there is not enough pressure
I have checked the ECU and there is no oil

Please help would be much appreciated

have you checked the fuel cut off switch?

Ive tried purging the air out by running the fuel pump on and off.
I've disconnected the fuel line at the engine bloke turned the fuel pump on and fuel is coming out.
Ive run the battery flat 2 times trying to purge and start
?????????

You did remove the sealing washer from the previous filter before fitting the new one I take it?

To purge it....

turn the ignition on and wait for the fuel pump to stop priming. When it does (it can be a few mins), pump the accelerator pedal 5 times. The fuel pump should start back up and the management light will flash. Again wait until it stops and repeat the process another 2 or 3 times. If the fuel pump is still sounding gargly it still has air in it. When you are happy that you have given it several purge procedures, hold the throttle pedal to the floor and crank. DO NOT PUMP THE PEDAL. HOLD IT TO THE FLOOR. If it doesn't start in 30 seconds stop cranking and allow the starter to cool before trying again.

what do mean by...

If you mean the rubber seal on old filter yes i have removed it as the new filter has a new one.

Ive tried the purging like you say at least 20 times and still nothing

It's not unkown to leave the old seal on by mistake (sometimes they stay on the filter housing after the filter is removed).

Is the fuel pump still gurgling when it is priming?

no attempt to fire at all no smoke, nothing

Fuel pump has a bit of a scream for 2 seconds then sounds normal

yes I had it out and cleaned it but only after i found this problem.
its in a difficult place to see well the wiring so not to sure really

well thanks a lot for your advise, I will continue tomorrow morning and try to get it started, will check in first thing in the morning to see if any other ideas. thanks all......
