Can someone please help out here. A 2000 discovery td5 had an intermittant mis fire, i was told to check for oil near the ecu and to my horror oil was pumping out the loom and running down past the steering box. I have replaced the injector harness, cleaned the block conecors and the plugs on the ecu. The engine started and ran for some 5 seconds, cut out now wont start. Ive swapped the harness with the original, blown out the conection terminals and still drawn a blank........

Have you checked the inertia switch hasn't tripped?

Can you hear the fuel pump priming? Is it more noisy than usual?

Is there any smoke from the exhaust when cranking over?

Hi, as i said it did fire up for about 5 seconds, the fuel pump is still going, no smoke from exhaust and nothing unusual on the dash board. Ive gentley opened the ecu and found no oil contamination or signs of burning out?????? stumped me

It seems normal to me, was awkward as had the wife standing next to me nagging and moaning about the house needing a coat of paint. Not to sure if the pump was buzzing or the wife gagging!!!!!! lol

try turning the ignition on and then waiting for the fuel pump to stop. When it stops, press the throttle pedal to the floor 5 times in a row. The fuel pump should start bacj up again. Wait for it to stop and repeat it again. If it sounds nice and quiet and normal then press the throttle pedal to the floor and crank the engine. If it doesn't start straight up keep the pedal pressed fully down and keep cranking. After 10 seconds of cranking the ecu chucks loads of extra fuel in to try and get it to start. If it hasn';t started in about 20-25 seconds, stop and let the starter motor cool down before re-trying again.

I had my doughts about trying that couldnt see it doing anything, tried it this morning and after a stuggle it fired up. Your good! many thanks Dennis
