Help wanted.

Drove home yesterday all fine. Went out this morning to go to work. wouldn't start. tried locking unlocking incase imobiliser. No joy.

Just got back and started first time.

any thoughts? guess that rules out battery.

Is the imobiliser on a disco 2 a spider like the disco 1.

Does the starter solenoid start as an intermitent fault?

Any ideas would be much appreciated.

Cheers

Could be starter solenoid or ignition switch.

Does the dash light up properly??

Sounds like starter motor solenoid to me - get the £10 repair kit from Ebay.

The starter has three fixings - 2 x 13mm bolts and 1 x 15mm nut at the top.

just a thought and not doubting the post above, but have you checked the signal wire that goes from the ingnition barrel to the starter solenoid, its the thin one with a spade conector, maybe it loose. Only assuming that when you turned the key you got nothing, not even a click.

The starter solenoid problem usually has symptoms where it won't start, then it will, with the won't start times becoming more frequent as time goes on, if that helps. When it doesn't start, everything else works except there's a click.

Confused. Just wentto check if it clicks when turning the key or not and it started on the button.???

My moneys on the srater solenoids aswell.

Next time it wont start, just keep turning the key back and forth, ( ignition off/on/crank ), and eventually, ( if it is the starter solenoids ), you will get a " click ". It may well just start, but this, again, would indicate that your starter is at fault.

The solenoid kit cost £10, and its about an hours work. Even if its not your starter, the solenoids will eventually play up, so it a good job done, and rules this out if it something else. ( which I doubt it is !! ).
