Keep calm ..... is it perhaps IMMOBILISED even though you THINK the alarm wasn't used?

Get the owner's manual out and start hunting how to DE-immobilise it.

Is it the altitude or too much red wine ? Td5 and 1998 dont fit,no crank sensor on a Td5 really does not fit.
So what is it,a 98 TDI or a 99 Td5 ?
Non start is a totally different kettle of fish for either.(once you go beyond a flat battery.)

tried the alarm as per book car is 89 90 and i fitted a write off 110 td5 axles gearbox ect ive had a year with no problems im sure theres no crank sensor as the book gives that fault for not starting.i checked my 1999 130 tda and guess what no sensor i can see the flywheel and the drilled as described in the manual i know nothing about diesel cars cranks over but thats it

If its a TD5 then it has a crank sensor - if its not working the engine will not work, simple as that.

where is the crank sensor mounted on both my car on the bottom of gear box has threaded hole where u can see fly wheel and drilled holes for sensor pick up but no sensor and im sure its td5

Have you counted the injectors it's not called a td5 for nothing you know Oh and that hole you can see is a drainage hole if you go wading then you need a plug to fasten in there to keep the water out.

To count injectors in a TD5 you need to take the top half of the engine to bits.

Just to complicate matters, a TD5 only has FOUR glow plugs!

Which side of the engine is the inlet manifold on,same side as the turbo or the other side ?

Start it up and run it for a bit, if your hand sticks to it and gives you 3rd degree burns you've found the exhaust manifold and the inlet is on the other side

Yes, its in the flywheel housing above and behind the starter, held in by a single bolt.It has 2 wires, a pink/black and a white/blue.
