Evening all.

So at 17 years of age im right at the bottom of the very steep learning curve that is expected to come in relation to owning a defender ( hence i need some of the help for the experienced guys)

So the story goes like this,
Late last night i was out last driving around with my small single axel trailer ( like you do!) and i stopped to pick up a load and came to drive off and the engine just turned over over and just wouldn't fire up.

Im not mega mechanically minded so didn't really have a clue what to check for, so i waited for my mate to come with his landy and tow me home!!!

By the time he came 15mins had past and i thought i would give it one more go, gave it a turn and it seemed to have a bit more life, throttled a bit and she fired up and i managed to drive her all the way home.

Got home and she started up 3 times in a row on 4th time it wouldn't fire up again......same again this am just kept turning over ....DEAD...

Any ideas ???

Sorry for the lengthily thread,

Really really appreciate anyone who posts anything, or people to just tell me to shut up!!!!...hahahaha

thanks

kai

Does your water temp gauge go straight to the red? If so check the relays (under the drivers seat next to the ECU) for tightness and cleanliness also check the earth that's there too.

Have you got a good battery, after charging it up does it turn over better and start up ok, was it a bit sluggish turning over when it would not start, after standing a while it may have recovered enough to start it and when you got home starting and stopping it 3 times may have took too much out of the battery to start on the 4th go, I would try a known good battery and see how you get on.
A diesel need a good battery to spin it over fast enough to start it up.
