Need some help!!. Just had a new Flywheel, clutch, bearings etc replaced by local garage because we had some gearbox noises. All done but ever since the car has developed a loud noise on acceleration (mainly on boost) it sounds like an exhaust blowing but pretty sure its not and noise comes from around the transmission tunnel area. I then took it to a local independent LR garage who said yes its transmission noise probably needs a gearbox. So call Ashcroft get new gearbox fitted. Noise still there (this noise has only happened since new clutch and flywheel)
At first the noise only happened on boost but now it will also do it at tick over but only if its stopped going up hill!!.
It gets weirder!! If i stop going down hill and pull the hand break on it does it, if i let the hand break off just a fraction the noise goes!.
Its quite a loud noise hard to describe, the noise is in time with engine RPM and it has a metallic sound like a rubbing noise the higher the revs the louder the noise.
Help!!!!!:confused::confused::confused:

maybe the handbrake needs to be adjusted.... put your hand on the drum after a short run and if it's very warm it means there's the problem

I had somthing similar, It fooled lots who looked at it . It turned out to be the dinamic counter weight on the transmition had dropped a bolt and had moved and was resting on the chassis. Under load or on a hill the vibration went right through the chassis. Sounded just like I had dropped a cylinder. Disco 2

Now that sounds more like it!. Will have a look into that. Where is it?!

Well all fixed, turned out it had two problems, one was the exhaust heat shield was loose and also a clutch release pipe was rubbing on the gearbox!
