Please help from NZ
My 2001 td5 ES will not lock up in 4 gear at 50mph at all when the car is warmed up. I have managed to get lock up when cold but once warm and I have to slow down or speed up and it goes out of lock up it won't lock up again. Have had gear box flushed 3 times but no remedy. Help greatly appreciated

Truly you ought to be locking up at approx 55mph according to the speedo.

As a test, select third gear and see what speed it goes into lock-up; should be about 50mph.

Thanks for the help guys. It doesnt lock up even at 60mph or 100kmh. Cant seem to get it to lock in 3 gear either? any ideas what would cause this. Stall test didnt indicate an issue with torque converter. Gear box shifts smoothly

Hi mate, there is a Motorised Valve (MV) in the valve block of the autobox and it sounds like it's not working. MV4 from memory. If you have RAVE, check it out in there.

Really James Martin is the kiddy for gearboxes, hopefully he'll be along soon.

Cheers

Thanks Dave
RAVE reckons MV3 is lock up valve. Where is the valve block for the auto gear box. I assuming its a specialist job to fix those valves?
Thanks for the help

Hi Simon, when you remove the autobox sump, the valve block is immediately visible and accessible.

I have never removed any on these MV's to clean or replace so can't speak from personal experience, but I do know the absolute cleanliness is required to work on them.

If you haven't already got a RAVE workshop manual, get hold of one off ebay or the like and check it out. I don't think it would be out of your ability to have a look at this.

Hi, start with a stall test to rule out those things maybe
