Td5 ticking over at 1000rpm

Hi all my99 disco td5 ticks over at 1000rpm not sure but think this is too fast so any ideas ? Cheers guys
 
Its controlled by the ECU so I'd check the throttle pedal connectors are clean and secure and I'd also make sure the air filter is clean. Unplug the MAF (air flow meter) and see if that makes a difference. I'd also check and clean the MAP (inlet manifold pressure) sensor.
 
all the above + the AAP sensor(the one in the side of the airbox)... by the way, is your temp. gauge working well?..cos if the coolant temp sensor gives bad signal the ECU could increase the revs "thinking" that the temp. is too low... if you dont have tester to read live data you better just replace this one... it's cheap enough and if it was good at least you have a spare for both coolant temp and fuel temp sensors cos they are the same.
