td5 TC problems ?

Hi, I've been out on a green lane today in my 2002 td5. I dont do much off roading but I've been very impressed with how well the car has coped with steep slippy climbs. except today, and I'm wonderring if i have a problem. I pulled up this steep little bank and sure enough the front wheen started to slip and the tc came on. I knew that one of the back wheels was slipping as well. but I could see the driver side back wheen had a good footing, but despite a bit of throttle in Low 2 gear no movement. I expected that wheel to be set free by the TC and to be pushed over but it did nothing and I just sat there. I thought if you had one wheen on good ground that the power would be sent to that wheel. but nothing seemed to happed. lot sof noise from the TC as normal but no forward movement. Does any one have any ideas please?

or is this just paranoya and I'm expecting too much from one wheel.

One wheel drive in a 2½ ton 4 x 4 may not get you very far!

The problem with TC is it can be too smart for its own good, and when you do get stuck BOY! You are STUCK!

I am no expert these days but when we used to train army drivers the difficult bit was helping them to judge how fast to take the dodgy bits. Too slow leads to getting stuck PDQ, and too fast leads to all sorts of other excitements.

Were you creeping slowly up and relying on the TC? A little more forwards momentum might be the order of the day, but your careful attitude will save a lot of expenses.

Many thanks, I think you make a good point Yes, I was creeping up pretty slowly. as the top was a bit of a saddle which i wanted to hit square in the middle. so I guess up to three wheels were slipping in the clay, but I suppose I was surpised that the one rear wheel didn't seem to be doing any pushing, it wss just sat there. But as you say, it is asking a lot of a 2.5 ton car and three wheels potentially slipping. I've had a quick look around the forums and aside the ones about three lights coming on the dash, (which I dont have thankfully ) there seem to be very few issues with TC. I wonderred if the other wheel maybe had a bit of a seezed brake and therefore couldn't stop itself to transfer the power to the other.but when I got home I found that that brake disk was the same temp as the other three so must be doing something.
