Hello folks,
After many years of wanting one, I am about to take the plunge and buy a 1999 TD5 90 CSW, mostly standard, although with uprated steering, prop shafts and suspension following an experiment fitting a lift kit. The current owner hated the effect that this had on the handling so dropped it back down, but left the uprated stuff on.
I found the 90 buying guide thread very helpful, thanks, and have been working my way through the Haynes workshop manual which helped me to think about other stuff to check up on during an inspection.
One question that I can't find an answer to easily though is how suitable is a TD5 for occasional use?
Will it matter if it sits for an extended period (possibly as long as 2 months) without the engine being turned over or the car being moved?
I have heard that brakes can lock up if left for extended periods, but I guess that it is OK to leave the handbrake on as it acts on the propshaft?
I am planning to fit an FIA cut off switch both for a little bit of additional security and to stop the battery draining by the way.
Any other tips or advice relating to storage would be very welcome.
