My father borrowed my car today and phoned me this morning complaining that my car has lost power, he says he put his foot down from traffic lights and the car misfired, and since then its very down on power, struggling to hit 70 on the motorway. he says he then pulled off the motorway, turned it off and back on again and it seems fine now. Ive got a funny feeling its something to do with the airflow sensor, anyone shed any light on what it might be??

Did any warning lights come on, on the dashboard?

M & S lights flashing, with D flashing on dash and red light by gear selecter flashing = limp home mode, mine did this and after turn off and back on all was fine, is this not the XY switch what ever that is, only going by other posts?? I know nothing !! just tryin to help.

Its manual mate, thanks anyway! :)

could it be the fuel pump?? I just spoke to a mate that works for land rover and he says it could be a sign of the fuel pump on its way out?!

It could be the pump. To test it you need to: put keys in ignition, open drivers window, turn keys to pos II with dashboard lights on, listen to the fuel filter area.

You should hear the pump working to build up pressure then after a little while it should go quiet. If you don't hear the pump at all, it's dead.

When did you last change your fuel filter? Any doubts change it straight away.

What's the condition of your airfilter like? Again any doubts at all, change it.

Paddocks do a set of filters for TD5 for £16-ish plus vat.

Could simply be the waste gate modulator....... classic symptoms is down on power, probably from 2500RPM on when the engine gets full boost and becuase the modulator is failing to control the boost, the ECU ****s itself and cuts the fuel to protect the engine.

take it for a spin and see if she'll pull with a hard throttle from 2500 rpm onwards, good to try it on a long slope as that "works" the engine harder.

REF the airflow sensor, most people would not even notice if its fubar'd as the engine simply runs a default fuelling map if the MAF fails.

Both the wastegate modulator and the MAF will NOT give any warning lights, infact there is VERY few sensors that will actually throw the TD5 engine light on.

Interesting..... Mine pulls well upto about 2800rpm then it goes a bit flat. Could that be related to a dodgy turbo modulator??

To be honest it could be a load of different things. To establish exactly what is going on, you need to get it on a Nanocom or similar.

Things like: dodgy fuel pump; MAF; MAP; wastegate modulator; shâgged air filter etc etc etc.

If it bothers you, get it diagnosed correctly.

My auto td5 had been playing up for months. Used most advice off here, changed MAF -
MAF - look at Ebay shop glowplugman1 £35:)
Things went okay for a few weeks then sh*t went down hill really fast. Loss of power - max 2500 rpm. Finally diagnosed as fuel pump.
New fuel pump - Ebay shop landroverexpert £135:D
No codes on nanocom.
hope this helps.
