Td5 slick shift worth the hassle???

I have a problem with my gear selector so I am buying a Slick Shift. Is it something fairly easy to do at home? I know that depends on knowledge, but my mechanic is booked up and I could really do with it fitted asap as i cant get some gears in my TD5 Disco. Is it fitted from above in cab or below on ramps? any tips appreciated

Fitted from above, straightforward job only takes an hour or so including fiddling with the bias springs, theres some vids on youtube
Are you sure the problem is selector related?

Thanks, so remove the gaiter around gear stick and I can get to everything I need from above? That's good, maybe I can do it myself then.
Not certain it's selector related but the next step is gearbox out and new clutch (need clutch anyway, I THINK, but this may prove otherwise). Mechanic (LR specialist) is pretty sure I have a selector problem as sitting in it for 10 mins feeling the gear change with engine off, he said it's terrible, no spring tension and no positivity. Its an upgrade worth doing I think, if it doesn't solve the problem then I am only back to doing clutch which this may give me chance of avoiding, slim chance maybe

Found one, ordered. In a major hurry so if anyone could tell me what else I will need to fit, I'd be grateful. I have some Loctite Threadlock (not sure what number, its red bottle blue liquid)

As JimS says it is a very easy job - an hour is plenty and no skill required. I recommend this video which I thought was the clearest.
You will need some silicon sealant as well as what you get in the box.
Once you have fitted it then spend some time getting the springs set up just right - the difference between spot on and a tiny bit out is the difference between a perfect change, and occasional catching.

silicon - i have loads of household silicon, and sticks like **** (won't use that!!). I think I have some 'instant gasket" which i think is silicon, used it for boat engine some time and still have half a tube, maybe that will do?

seems pointless buying the kit just uses a different method of adjusting the bias springs

already bought it as friend of mine and mechanic both said it's a nice upgrade anyway. might regret it but on its way to me now so soon find out

fair enough ,on the defender it alters the stick pivot point altering stick travel, on the disco it doesnt just gives a different way of adjusting bias springs
