Td5 problems would apritiate help

It does sound like the stat was working to a certian extent but im posative the second part of the stat is stuck shut because at 1500rpm everything worked fine (the point where the vacuum opens first stage of the stat) then any other rpm I was having problems with no heating and pressurised hoses collecting genuine landrover parts in the morning as I knackered the top hose too
 
Update i replaced stat today bled system as per rave manual still the same the top hose is red hot and pressurised the bottom of the thermostat housing is also hot the other side top of housing is cold the entire radiator is cold pretty much the only hot place is the top hose

Did you run the engine for long enough for it to gether fully up to temp?

did you flush the rad out . sounds blocked up . isolate it, and put some water in it to see what sort of flow you get through it .
 
Ran to temp still no joy and I put a hose through the top of the rad when flushing coolant out because it was pink and I wanted to replace with blue. Water ran through the rad easy enough I think
 
Gupdate incase any one is reading. Pulled the stat out again today just to test and it worked fine the pulled water pump out and all is well there. I filled the rad with boiling water from a kettle and only the side attatched to the top hose got warm the rest stayed cold after putting 6 litres of hot water in it. Water flows freely through it but obviously its not getting through the whole rad. System is still pressurising and blowers go hot cold really hot cold ect any ideas anyone
 
Did the rad cure yours ? Did you have same prob as me ?

not entirely, rad only got hot at the top, i thought the headgasket might of gone, asked on here and thats the main answer you get, so changed stat, flushed out numerous times, and still not convinced with rad, so got new coolant tank cap and rad, been great since(August) monitored it since, no problem so have had it remapped, (dec) now just got a new uprated intercooler to put on, gonna do power steering pump at same time and water pump, new belt etc, then i can safely say ive done it all, 2nd hand car!!!:)
 
Would you say your symptoms where exactly the same as my first post would be crap to replace all that and still have the same problem straight after ive bled the system all seems well for a little but then all the pressure comes back mine has done 125k

no my heater worked ok, i felt as though the top hose was getting hard, but i ain't no mechanic and have never seen one with the proper symptoms of HG failure, so thought and asked, mileage 105k, car 9yrs old, 2nd hand to me, ive done everything else, didn't want the cost of replacement HG, so went around the ways to eliminate all others, stat, flushed, expansion cap, then rad, total around £130.00, cured it, my power steering pump groans, works ok, but for sake of another 130.00 for when i do the inter cooler, will have access, i know it's all done then, hopefully!! i got this car fairly cheap, but must admit ive spent nearly £1500 on it!:eek: cars!!lol
 
I bought mine for 1k knowing about the problems but i thought even if i were to spend 500-600 on it id still have a cheap td5 thats had everything done think im going to do rad and cap this weekend ill update again soon

£1k is good, you have been lucky! but to spend 5-600 is soon done, ive done shocks,,2tyres, all brakes, filters n belts, fuel pump, maf, rad, stat, cap, waste gate module all new fluids, then all the little bits, then a few extras, list goes on! but car is sound now, all panels straight, paint shines,
gone right through it, now for a few mods, new A bar, 2 spots, intercooler, remap, plastered a room out for some paint work, lol, new rear light , sold old 1 had a chip on it on ebay and had £4.00 change! good luck
 
Mine came with a set of brand new genuine landrover water prooof seat covers loads of mot and tax a bar with spots 125k new tyres full dealer history air bags removed ace removed dog guard rubber mats in nearly mint condition in light gold i love it but need to get to the bottom of this problem
 
Well replaced the rad today and bled the system it was a no go untill i revved at 4000rpm and heaters where red hot left to idle and stayed hot rad was also hot all over went for a drive 2 minutes later went cold rad at this point is cold got home 4000rpm again and heat came back hoses are still rock hard so no joy their
 
Try the thermostat. I had the sane issues before Xmas. Turned out it was the Head Gasket. Don't always get the tell tale signs I'm afraid. Get it dye tested.

sounds as though it is the HG, i would now get it tested and see , then you know you have tried everything before you have to strip it! :(
 
Updat bled system again all is well untill I drive it then cold again I undid the bleed screw and all that comes out is air bubbles for 20min plus and what looks like little copper coloured shavings
