Ok thinking of returning to the land rovers after a long time away questions for you boys or girls what is the td5 like as a motor good on fuel? Tax is there a difference after year 2000 any problems to look out for ,a fancy an automatic is there a big mpg difference , oh air suspension is it a big problem seems a few have the spring conversion .thanks :D

Had my 52 reg td5 manual 6 months. No issues so far. Get around 600m on full tank, so not that bad. Will need to keep your speed to around 60mph to achieve this.

Re the airbags, they seem fine, but do notice they deflate if I sit in the back when parked and the engine off, but inflate quickly once the engine is turned on. Will prob change them later this year.

Nice to drive, comfortable, (I have the ES model). Small water ingress top right hand corner of windscreen but sealed with duct tape for now and seems to have fine the trick. Sunroofs seem fine, dry as a bone.

Small (oil) leak tbc later this year. Not the quickest off the mark, but gets there eventually.

Only surface rust on the chassis; I don't think she ever went off-road. Door pillars a bit of between the glass, but sorted that.

Small spots on the roof to attend to when I get a chance.

Get one, they are awesome; my first Landy!

I think that you will find this is normal and nothing to do with the airbags being faulty.

I've owned my Td5 2001 for 1 and a half year now 107000 miles on the clock, same fuel as Sean69 had to change injector loom £28 (very easy) drivers window actuator £16 ebay again childs play to change. And its the best car I have owned I love it buy one you will not regret it

Thanks for that looked at a few online and the spring conversion seems popular if things go wrong

Last one I had was an old D reg vogue se range rover a v8 though ghat was 10 years ago kids forced sale I rebuilt it miss it to this day .kids have there own cars now time for me now :p

Ref TAX, after March 2001 they are £275 (P/A) as aposed to ones registered prior to March 01 are £225 (thereabouts)
The manuals are considerably better on fuel than autos. 25mpg vs 30mpg.
Give the chassis a good going over, they are getting older now and more and more rusting away.
HTH

td5 is a good landy but if you go shopping for one take out the cover for sunroof motor manual winder and check to see if it is dry as for rear air springs it is easy replacement as I did mine within a couple of hours also check boot door seal as prone to leak and fuel pressure regulator and check for vibration when cold or on biting point as it may need crank pulley wheel which is big cost to replace about £400 for original landy one I had auto 300 tdi and have got manual td5 I would stick with manual as auto can be a pain and manual a lot quicker on pickup

Had my 51plate td5 for for almost 10years , in that time I've done fuel preshure regulater once ' drag rod end 3times ,air springs once , front shocks and springs (snapped one) brakes all round once ,rebuilt starter, auto box pipes , top hose , fixed leaks on both sunroofs and windscreen , fixed central locking receiver , fixed seat 6/7 when they got stuck down , and then all the normal bits ya do living with any self maintenanced motor. And I love it , and wouldn't change it for anything , just remember if you go online looking up faults for cars that's all you will every read :D

Ok quick pole automatic or manual I did fancy an auto mabey just to be lazy am now swaying to manual both my old range rovers were manuals but had a few v8 sdi auto mmmm decisions:D

I like my auto as I tow my horse box and find it smoother .and tow my caravan long distances so easier on the left leg in traffic .
