Hi all. Ive been looking for a TD5 since Jan without much luck. My mrs and I are quite picky as to model, mileage, owners, colour, trim, fsh bla bla bla. We know that TD5's have problems however most seem common and cheap to fix. Its has come to a point now though that we are edging to a Disco 3 as an option. What are your views on reliability and repair costs please guys?? Ps we need an ES or SE model minimum as we need the full elec seats due to my mrs bad back. Thanks in advance all.

I've had both, there worlds apart, I had my td5 around 7 years no major faults, servicing, replaced suspension to freshen it up, clutch and a turbo, was always happy with it. Changed it for an 2006 3 18 months ago, I went for the 06 as it's cheaper tax mine was in that by just 14 days, I looked for 6 months for the right car, full LR service history, mines just s spec as wasn't bothered about the extras it was more important to get the right car, I've had the suspension bushes done but I new they wanted doing when I bought it, other than that just a couple of services so far. However, I'm not daft and know it's not a car to try and run on a budget, I know at anytime in can and most likely will give me the occasional larger bill, but it's a great car so much more refined than the TD5.
Provided you get the right car I would reccomend either.
Wouldn't take either were the defender goes though...........

Thanks Mark.
A bit of an update: we are now even considering the v8 lpg option on a 2004 model. 66k on the clock which is kind of the mileage we were looking for. Not many diesels out there with this sort of mileage and anything close to it the dealers want stupid money for. I previously had a RR 4.0 V8 and wow was it the best car ive ever had. My mrs will be grinning from ear to ear compared to her current ford focus :):clap2:
