Hi Everyone,
I am new to this forum but have extracted some very good information off over the past, from very experienced members.
I have purchased a 1999 Discovery TD5 ES 95K. It has been looked after but a few jobs are needed.
Firstly I live in Wigan and I probably need the crank seal replacing dose anyone recommend anywhere and at what cost?
Secondly the chasse needs a blasting off to get rid of rust and re-coating any suggestions?
:):)

I'm guessing you've looked under the car and seen fluid leaking at the bell housing inspection hole?

If this is the case, it would more likely be oil leaking at the top of the engine at the rocker cover gasket, which always leaks at that point once the gasket goes hard. Also in that corner is the fuel pressure regulator, which will leak diesel down there as well. All that leaking can get into the bell housing and leak directly onto the dual mass flywheel and then find its way out at the bottom of the bell housing. Usually by this point it has caused contamination at the flywheel, so this may need replacement. Some genius also put a crank shaft sensor there as well, so in extreme cases, you have problems here.

IIRC, the book time to get the gearbox out and in is 4 or 5 hours on the Repair Times Searcher. Add in the time for fitting a flywheel and clutch and you are probably looking at 6 hours book time.

Great,
Many thanks for your detailed reply.
I have orderd a new set of gaskets and it looks fun changing the flywheel.
I spent a few years working on my wifes freelander so im glad the Discovery is more reliable.
Do you know any good, but not over expensive under body people , mine needs a blast then I can get it waxoiled.

Have you got any truck repair facillties near you as they are almost certain to have a steam cleaner for steam cleaning the chassis does a fantastic job.
