I'm going to attempt to remove the knackered engine oil cooler on my TD5 this weekend, and replace it with the new one ive managed to get hold of.

Am i right in thinking i will need to remove the turbo to gain access to it?

Any hints or tips from anyone that has done this before?

Also is there anywhere online that i can find a diagram of that side of the engine, just so i'm not going in completely blind.

Thanks!

Well I went in blind as no-one answered.

For future reference if anyone needs to do this job, turbo off, oil filter and rotor filter housings off, oil cooler off, clean up all the oily gunk, then fit new oil cooler and everything else in reverse.

Pretty easy job, couple of hours tops.

Sorry for opening an old thread but ill be attempting this job soon..

My oil cooler on the side of the engine block has sprung a coolant leak.

O/P can you remember are any new gaskets required?

And where did you get your new oil cooler from and how much.

Im a bit apprehensive about taking off the turbo and exhaust manifold as the nuts and bolts looks pretty knackered, and i presume are cast iron.

I can see a few shearing off...

edit

And yes im on about this oil cooler..

dont buy a new cooler unless the body is cracked... google out "Td5 oil cooler repair kit" then choose the cheapest supplyer ...u'll escape a bit cheaper than with a new one;)
