1. when was the injector loom changed last time? ... check for oil at ECU red plug, if it's clean there check the upper plug at the head...if you find oil either way replace the injector loom
2. air and especially fuel filter must be ruled out, i matters the brand of the fuel filter too, cheap sh*t may cause trouble
3. see if there's no leak at the FPR

he is changing the loom, i think the IPA is iso propyl alcohol for cleaning the ecu contacts and plug/socket before the new loom/harness goes on.
Take the ecu out of the car (disconnect the battery before you do this) and either open it up and carefully dry it out, or stand it on its end with the plug side down on a towel over night. Even after fitting the new harness, continue to clean ends of harness that goes from under rocker cover to ecu regularly with electrical contact cleaner, or untill oil residue dries up.

I have heard of a way to stop the oil traveling down the loom, I do not have a td5 so am just asking if it would work.
Carefully strip back insulation and add a blob of solder to the wire. Reinsulate and do same with next wire till all done.
I would have preferred to remove individual pins from connector to slide heatshrink over the soldered blob.
I have been told cutting the cable is not advisable as the length is critical.
Can anyone experienced with this side of things confirm the above?

i did it ... inserted bullet connectors on the 5 wires to injectors near the ECU... but this will only solve the oil ingress not the problem... the loom must be replaced anyway as it's bad where it plugs to the solenoids as well
I did mine about 6 months ago. It wasn't as bad as some that I have seen photos of on similar threads.
There must have been a lot of oil in the loom back to the ecu though, as I check every couple of weeks and there is still the odd drop coming out of the red connector. Round connector on front of engine is always bone dry.
I've never bothered disconnecting the battery and have had no problems and am not alone in this. Perhaps the later type of ecu is more robust in this respect?

The trouble is that once the oil has contaminated the wire you'd never be able to solder it.
Yes I am aware of that, looking at doing it to a new loom to try to eliminate the problem.
Just threw the idea out as I had not read if it on here, if it were to work it would be a worthwhile modification, or have no interest in resloving it as they would not sell any new looms.
