TD5 no start and no leccy windows?!?

Another frustrating problem with the 110 TD5, was tidying up all the wiring in the battery box making it all pretty and neat, have been meaning to since fitting split charge a while back. Eitherway, before everything worked, now position 2 on ignition everything comes on as should, fuel pump etc, but it won't crank....and weirdly enough, the electric windows aren't working, all of which was fine before.

Both electric window fuses are fine, but it's odd that both would not be working. Checked all fuses under seatbox too....

...anyone experience anything like this before?

p.s. I hate TD5's

disconnect battery for a few mins and reconnect. its the easiest thing to try, but it might reset any immobiliser issues, i remember this working for me with a golf a few years ago when the window stopped working! probably wont help, but give it ago!

Half these are wrong but is the 3rd from the left on the bottom row flashing?



It'll be your immobilizer and usually sorted by just disconnecting the battery. Happened me once for no reason and another time when I forgot I took off the key as wanted to leave it running for a while after towing a heavy load to open workshop door.

When I went to start it later I didn't have the fob on me of course

Just wanted to post a quick reply to this, I know it was a couple of weeks ago, turned out to be a dodgy starter relay, the earth on it was really intermittent.

And the windows....I didn't realise there was a third fuse, so the fuses for left and right were fine, but the little low amp one had popped....very weird!

Tanktruck, your message on a 3rd fuse for the electric windows has just helped me solve a problem I've had for over a month - both front windows would not wind up or down

The 2 fuses (12 & 13) in the fuse box near the steering wheel, which I concluded to be fuses for front & rear windows respectively from the diagrams on the compartment door, were both okay. But I could hear a relay clicking in the BCU underneath the glovebox whenever I tried to wind the front windows up or down. Then I tried 2 other BCUs which both exhibited the same problem, thus eliminating the probability of a faulty BCU :scratching_chin:

I found this thread & consulted my Owner's handbook to find a 3rd fuse. I discovered that the front window fuse is No 34 - not 12. 12 is for the sun roof - which I don't have in my commercial 2004 TD5. Arrrrggggg! I hadn't see the 3rd icon for the front window fuse hiding on the bottom right of the fuse index diagram - Arrrrgggg! again.

Yes! Fuse 34 had blown! Fuse changed & problem solved Some plonker had put in a 20A instead of 30A fuse for the front electric windows - no wonder it blew eventually. Why don't they keep all the window fuses together?
