Hi All,

Another questions from the newbie - fingers crossed you wise owls can point me in the right direction!

The electric windows were working fine, and then the other day the passenger front decided to stop working and won't go back up.

I checked all the fuses and all seems to be ok.

I've taken the door card off, as I heard sometimes the wires can break - but looking at it I can see the are 4 wires from the door, but only 2 that carry on into the cab. I've attached pictures for reference.

So before I start ripping everything out, could one of you kind souls point me in the right direction?

Thank you as always for you help.

Cheers,

Paul

I imagine there are two wires for the windows and the other two are for central locking which isn’t fitted?
Hi there,

No there isnt any central locking yet - but that makes sense with regards to those wires.

So the drivers electric window is still working, so I went through the passenger fuses one by one and to see if the windows had separate fuses to no avail.

I didnt try the fuses under the drivers seat though - would a 'normal person' even run them there? Is it worth checking?

Is there a way to a) get the window up without the electrics, b) another power source to see if its the motor, or c) go wire hunting?

As always, any help much appreciated. :)

It could be one of the wires has broken inside the so not obvious by looking. 12v live and earth wires onto the two window wires will put window up if the motor is good. Just carefully pare a bit of insulation off each wire and touch your live and earth onto them. If it goes down, swap the live and earth and it should go up

Do both doors only have the 2 wires?
Where are your switches? You could check behind them and work out if they are both on the same 12v supply or seperate.
If they are in the doors then you will/should have 12v and earth through those wires with ignition on.

With 2 wires you will not find a 12v at the motor unless you push the button, because with only 2 wires the 12v will switch from 1 side to the other to get the window motor to reverse I.E up or down when you press the button.

So take off the offending door card and start looking. As ^^^you should be able to just manually apply 12v and earth and get the window up.

Do you have a DMM or test lamp? if not then go and get 1, your gonna need it again :D .

Thanks for coming back guys - lunch time job I'll check the switch for the passenger side.

Is it a simple case of prising them off?

Dont know with out seeing them and where they are ;). But alot do just pop out yes. but you could break tabs and then you are in another world of hurt:vb-groan2:

You will soon understand the importance of letting us see pics (if you havent already). And answering question ;).

Bearing in mind these are not standard then without good info or photos it's very difficult to give you an answer which is relevant.
Also it would be best to have the same topic in one thread.
You HAVE to buy a multimeter or at the very least a test light, otherwise how will you know if there is electric in the wires? It's fruitless just looking at the wires.

Undo the 4 screws and let the whole panel come out "slowly" dont tug on it. Then look in and see a rats nest of wires quickly screw it back in and call an auto electician Then decide whats next.

It coud be a right DIYers mess in there or somebody who cared abit, you will only know when you get in there.

They are called "carling switches" I belive.

Look at your fuse box, looks to me as if there are some random red and blue wires hanging around in there. You have red and blue going to your window motor.
Until you have a test light then it might be best just to leave it all alone before you burn it to the ground.
Post a photo of your fuse box and also the wires actually connected into the window motor

A few more pictures for you - I've followed the wires from the windows, back to the centre console, to which I can see 2 relays (circled in green). Do they ever malfunction?

I'm getting a reader tomorrow, so I'll be able to take some readings - though no no broken wires I'm pleased to say!
