I’ve noticed a quite loud whistling over the last few days that wasn’t there before. It’s under acceleration and starts around 2500 revs. Ease off the throttle and it stops, when the car gets up to speed, it stops. It only does it under load.
I used the search facility on here and started to look in all the suspect places. What I found, within a few minutes, was a nut missing from the bottom exhaust manifold stud on cylinder 5.
My question is, could it just be this missing nut that’s causing the whistle, or is there a likelyhood that the manifold is warped? The stud is still in place and tight.
Turbo and all hoses look perfect, as does flexi down-pipe. Obviously, I’m going to replace the nut and see what happens, but not sure what size it is?

Any advice appreciated.

might be best to replace the gasket, manifold will move with temp, whether its too far you can find out at the same time

Conclusion was, the whistling suddenly became a whooshing. Looked under the bonnet and saw the turbo to intercoler pipe has come off. Put it back and tightened the big jubilee clip and everything was fine again. No whooshing, no whistling.
